The Last Obligatory Duty

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Allamah Al-Majlisi:

[Tafsir of Ali ibn Ibrahim] narrated from his father from Safwan ibn Yahya from Al-Alaa from Muhammad ibn Muslim from Abi Ja'far (عليه السلام) who said: "the last obligatory duty which Allah Almighty revealed down was Al-Wilaya, then after that He did not reveal any other obligatory duty and after that He revealed in the valley of Kira' Al-Ghamim : 'Today, I have perfected for you the Religion'[5:3], then the Messenger of Allah(صلى الله وعليه وآله) established it in Al-Juhfa (i.e. Ghadir Khumm)."

Eid Al-Ghadir In The Heavens

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Al-Majlisi I:

narrated through a strong, equivalent to authentic, chain from Al-Bazanti who said: we were in the presence of Al-Ridha(عليه السلام) with a large group of people, until they started talking about the Day of Al-Ghadir, until some people denied it, then Al-Ridha(عليه السلام) said: "narrated to me my father from his father (عليه السلام) who said: 'verily, the Day of Al-Ghadir is more famous in the Heavens than on Earth, verily Allah has created a palace in High Paradise, one block of it is built of silver and one block of it is built of gold, in it there are one hundred thousand domes made of red sapphire, and one hundred thousand tents made of green sapphire, its surface is musk and perfume, in it there are four rivers, one river of wine, one river of water, one river of milk and one river of honey, surrounded with all sorts of fruits, on them there are birds with bodies made of pearls and wings made of sapphire, singing colourful songs, when the Day of Al-Ghadir comes, people of the heavens enter into that palace, they praise Allah and glorify Him, they bear witness to His Oneness, then those birds fly and dive into that water, whereupon that musk and perfume wallow, then once the angels are gathered they fly away and that fragrance sprinkles over them and in that day they take away gifts from the gifts of Fatimah's marriage (عليها السلام), and at the end of that day, it is announced: "return to your positions for you are protected of error and fault until the next year on this day, as an honor for Muhammad  (صلى الله عليه وآله) and Ali (عليه السلام)."'"
He (عليه السلام) then said: "O Ibn Abi Nasr, wherever you are on the Day of Al-Ghadir make sure to go there at the presence of Amirul-Mu'minin (عليه السلام), because Allah Almighty forgives the sins of seventy years of every believing man and believing woman and of every Muslim man and Muslim woman, and releases from Hellfire twice as many as in the month of Ramadhan and in the Laylatul Qadr and the Night of Fitr, and one Dirham charity to your brothers in faith in this day equals one thousand, so be generous to your brothers on this day and make every believing man and believing woman happy in this day."
He (عليه السلام) then said: "O people of Kufa, you have indeed been given abundant blessing and you are verily of those whose hearts have been tested by Allah upon faith, you are indeed left alone, subjugated, afflicted, tribulations are poured unto you incessantly, until the Resolver of the great suffering resolves it, by Allah if people really recognised the greatness of this day, the angels would have embraced them every day ten times, and if it was not that I dislike verbosity I would have mentioned about the superiority of this day details of what Allah bestows upon those who recognise the greatness of this day that could not be measured in numbers."
Ali ibn Al-Hasan ibn Fadh'dhaal said: Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Zurarah told me: "I indeed visited Al-Bazanti along with your father and Al-Hasan ibn Al-Jaham more than fifty times and each time we heard this narration from him."

The Imams ( عليهم السلام ) are protected from error

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh Hadi Al-Najafi:

Al-Kulayni: From Muhammad ibn Yahya from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa from Al-Hasan ibn Mahboub from Is'haq ibn Ghalib from Abi Abdillah(عليه السلام) said in a sermon of his mentioning the state of the Imams and their attributes: "He (i.e. the Imam) is well defended against the approaching dark nights and the false accusations of the evildoers. All wickedness is kept away from him and he is kept safe against all forms of defects and flaws. He is veiled against all scourges. He is protected from errors. He is kept safe and sound against all indecencies."

Going to Allah through other than the doors He has specified

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh As-Saduq:

Punishment of going to Allah through other than His doors:

Narrated to me my father, may Allah bless have mercy on him, saying: narrated to me Sa'd Ibn Abdullah from Mohammad Ibn Al-Husain Ibn Abil Khattab from Safwan Ibn Yahya from Is'haq Ibn Ghalib from Abi Abdillah As-Sadiq (عليه السلام) who said: "A monk from Bani Israel worshipped Allah so much that he became like a dry stick. Allah, the Mighty and Sublime revealed to His prophet of that time to go and say to him that (Allah says), “By My Greatness, Might and Power, even if you worship Me till you melt like something in the cooking pot, also, I will not accept it from you until you come to Me from the door that I have ordered you to come to me.”

The Grand Kingdom

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Al-Saffaar:

Narrated to us Ya'qub Ibn Yazeed and Mohammad Ibn Al-Husain from Mohammad Ibn Abi Umayr from Ibn Uzayna from Barid Ibn Muawiya from Abi Ja'far(عليه السلام) who said about the statement of Allah, the Exalted, the Supreme: "'Or do they envy the people for what Allah has given them of His grace? [4:54]', we are those who are envied for what Allah has given us of the Imamate from among all the creation of Allah."

Narrated to us Mohammad Ibn Al-Husain and Ya'qub Ibn Yazeed from Ibn Abi Umayr from Umar Ibn Uzayna from Barid Al-Ijli from Abi Ja'far(عليه السلام) who said about the statement of Allah, the Exaltet, the Supreme: "'But indeed We have given to Ibrahim's children the Book and the wisdom, and We have given them a grand kingdom.[4:54]' and He made us of them, the Messengers, Prophets and the Imams, so how do people accept this about the family of Ibrahim, but they deny it for the family of Mohammad(صلی الله و عليه و آله)?", I said: "so what is the meaning of: 'and We have given them a grand kingdom'?", he said: "the grand kingdom is putting among them Imams  that whoever obeys them, he obeys Allah and whoever disobeys them, he disobeys Allah, so this is the grand kingdom."

Those Who Follow Fallibles Have No Religion

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh At-Tusi:

[My father dictated to us saying] narrated to us Mohammad Ibn Mohammad who said: narrated to us Abu Ghalib Ahmad Ibn Mohammad Az-Zurari who said: narrated to us my uncle Ali Ibn Sulayman who said: narrated to us Mohammad Ibn Khalid At-Tiyalesi who said: narrated to me Al-Alaa Ibn Razin from Mohammad Ibn Muslim Ath-Thaqafi who said:"I heard Aba Ja'far Mohammad Ibn Ali(عليهما السلام) saying: ‘Whoever obeys, considering it a matter of his religion, someone who disobeys Allah, has no religion, and so also is a person who follows what is forged against Allah as well as someone who accepts as a matter of his religion, to reject any of the signs of Allah.’"

Footnote: this narration has also been narrated in Al-Kafi (Vol. 2 Pg. 373) through a Sahih(authentic) chain and Al-Allamah Al-Majlisi says: "'has no religion' means that he has no belief or his worship is not accepted and 'Whoever obeys' means that whoever worships Allah through 'obeying one who disobeys Allah' which refers to obeying fallible human beings, so it is not allowed to obey other than the infallibles in all matters, it has also been said that he who disobeys Allah could be also someone whose verdict is disobedience (to Allah) and is not worthy of issuing Fatwa, the second 'Whoever obeys' means also believing and worshipping Allah through 'what is forged against Allah' means that he makes this forged act as an act of worship or bases his worship upon that fabricated act. 'to reject any of the signs of Allah' means that he rejects any of the decisive verses of Qur'an, and it is also possible that 'the signs' here refer to the Imams(عليهم السلام)."

Cursed Are The Murderers Of Fatima(سلام الله عليها)

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh Al-Karajaki:

And among what has been narrated is that which our Sheikh, the Jurist, Abul Hasan Ibn Shadhaan narrated to us, he said: narrated to me my father, may Allah bless his soul, who said: narrated to us Ibn Al-Walid, Mohammad Ibn Al-Hasan, saying: narrated to us Al-Saffaar from Mohammad Ibn Al-Husain who said: narrated to us Mohammad Ibn Ziyad from Al-Mufaddal Ibn Umar from Yunus Ibn Ya'qub, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: I heard As-Sadiq, Ja'far Ibn Mohammad(عليهما السلام) saying: "Cursed is a body, cursed is the body that is not afflicted in every forty days."
So I said: "cursed?" He said: "yes, cursed", so when he saw that it was difficult for me to accept, he said: "O Yunus, among the afflictions could be also a scar, a thrust, a mistake, a misfortune and poverty, being away from home and so on. O Yunus, a believer is honored by Allah more than that to leave him forty days and does not clean his sins, even by afflicting him with a little sadness, that he might not even know where that sadness comes from and even some of you might receive some money but thinks that some of it is missing, so he becomes sad, but later he finds out that nothing was missing, and that would wash away some of his sins. O Yunus, cursed is a person, cursed is he who harms his neighbor, cursed is a person, cursed is he who when his brother offers him a compromise/peace he does not accept it, cursed is a person, cursed is he who is a reciter of Qur'an yet insists on drinking alcohol, cursed is a person, cursed is he who is a scholar yet serves a tyrannt ruler, assisting him in his oppression, cursed is a person, cursed is he who is a hater of Ali Ibn Abi Talib(عليه السلام), because he can't hate him unless he hates the Messenger of Allah(صلی الله وعليه وآله) and whoever hates the Messenger of Allah(صلی الله وعليه وآله), Allah curses him in this world and hereafter. Cursed is a person, cursed is he who accuses a believer of being a disbeliever, and if a person accuses a believer of disbelief it is as if he has murdered him. Cursed is a woman, cursed is she who angers her husband and makes him sad, and blessed is a woman, blessed is she who respects her husband and does not anger him and obeys him in all his affairs.
O Yunus, my grandfather the Messenger of Allah(صلی الله وعليه وآله) said: 'Cursed is the person, cursed is he who oppresses my daughter Fatima(سلام الله عليها) after me and usurps her right and murders her.' He then said: 'O Fatima, glad tidings for you, for there is a high rank for you in front of Allah, you will intercede with that position for those who love you and for your Shia and Allah will accept your intercession. O Fatima, if every Prophet(عليهم السلام) that Allah has sent and every Angel that Allah has given a high rank intercede for every person who hates you, who has usurped your right, Allah will never take him out of the Hellfire.'
Cursed is a person, cursed is he who cuts his kin relations, cursed is a person, cursed is he who confirms sorcery, cursed is a person, cursed is he who says that Imaan is just proclaiming it without doing good deeds, cursed is a person, cursed is he whom Allah has given wealth, but he refuses to give charity. Have you not heard that the Prophet(صلی الله وعليه وآله) said: 'Giving one dirham alms is superior to ten nights of prayers'? Cursed is a person, cursed is he who beats his father or mother. Cursed is a person, cursed is he who has been disinherited/disclaimed by his parents, cursed is a person, cursed is he who does not respect the mosque. O Yunus, do you know that Allah has given mosques a high honor and has revealed this verse: 'And the mosques are only for Allah, so pray not unto anyone along with Allah[72:18]', the jews and the christians used to consider others as gods beside Allah, so Allah, the Exalted, ordered his Prophet(صلی الله وعليه وآله) to believe only in one God and worship Him only."

Sayyed Sadiq Ar-Rohani:

598: About the oppressors of Az-Zahra(سلام الله عليها)?

Question: Al-Karajaki has narrated in his book Kanzul Fawahid, Vol. 1 Pg. 149-150 from Abul Hasan Ibn Shadhaan from his father from Mohammad Ibn Al-Hasan Ibn Al-Walid from Mohammad Ibn Al-Husain Al-Saffaar from Mohammad Ibn Ziyad from Mufaddal Ibn Umar from Yunus Ibn Ya'qub from As-Sadiq(عليه السلام) who said in a long narration: "O Yunus, my grandfather the Messenger of Allah(صلی الله وعليه وآله) said: 'Cursed is the person, cursed is he who oppresses my daughter Fatima(سلام الله عليها) after me and usurps her right and murders her.'"

Is the chain of this narration authentic?

Response: There is nothing wrong with the authenticity of its chain, because Al-Mufaddhal Ibn Umar has been considered trustworthy by Sheikh Al-Mufid in his book Al-Irshaad and he has praised him and Al-Kashi has narrated many narrations in his praise that indicates his high status and deputyship, and trustworthiness, as the author of Al-Wasahil mentions and there is no need to mention the sources in detail about this issue, you should refer to sources like Bihar and what the opponents have narrated through reliable chains with clear content that are not hidden from even the blind one, let alone those who can see.

Someone Without A Rightful Imam

The day when We will call every people with their Imam; then whoever is given his book in his right hand, these shall read their book; and they shall not be dealt with a whit unjustly. [17:71]

Sheikh Hadi An-Najafi:

Al-Kulayni: From Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Safwan ibn Yahya from al-‘Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following:
“I heard abu Ja'far(عليه السلام) saying, ‘Whoever worships Allah, the Majestic, the Glorious, with the expectation for reward, and works hard but without having an Imam for himself, his efforts will not find acceptance.
Such person is lost and is straying and Allah dislikes his deeds. The example of such person is like that of a lost sheep who strays away from the herd. She wanders around during the day and at nightfall she finds a different flock of sheep with a shepherd and she gladly and affectionately joins it thinking it to be like her own flock. She passes the night in their barn but does not recognize her flock and the shepherd, and begins to wander in search for her own flock and shepherd. She finds a flock and a shepherd rushes to the flock with great interest but the shepherd shouts, ‘Go to your own flock and shepherd; you are lost and wandering.’ She then runs back and forth, lost and wandering without a shepherd to show her the grazing areas and the barn. At such time a wolf seizes the opportunity and kills her for food. Just the same is the case, by Allah, O Muhammad, of those people of this ‘Ummah (nation) who have no Imam from Allah, the Most Holy, the Most High, who is in public and possesses the noble quality of justice. Such people are lost and straying. If such people, in such a condition, die their death will be like that of an unbeliever and hypocrite. O Muhammad, take notice that all unjust Imams and their followers are far away from the religion of Allah. They have lost the right path and have misled the others. Their deeds are like dust blown away by the winds in a stormy day. They will remain helpless and unable to benefit from their deeds. Such is straying far away from the right path.’”

Grading: the chain of the narration is Sahih(authentic).

Caliph of Allah On Earth In The Day of Judgment

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh Al-Mufid:

He said: Abu Ja'far Mohammad Ibn Ali Ibn Al-Husain Ibn Babawaih, may Allah bless him with mercy, reported to me from his father, who reported from Sa'd Ibn Abdullah, from Ayyub Ibn Nuh, from Safwan Ibn Yahya, from Aban Ibn Uthman, who reported that: Abu Abdullah, Ja'far Ibn Mohammad(عليه السلام), said:
'On the Day of Resurrection, an announcer will announce from inside the Throne: "Where is the Khalifa of Allah on earth?" So Dawood, the Prophet, will stand up and the voice from Allah, Most High, will say: "We do not mean you, although you were Allah's Khalifa." Then a second announcement will be made:
"Where is Allah's Khalifa on earth?" Then Amirul Mu'mineen, Ali Ibn Abi Talib(عليه السلام), will rise. So a voice will come from Allah, Most High: "O people! This Ali Ibn Abi Talib is the khalifa of Allah on His earth and His proof over His servants. So whoever adhered to his rope while on earth, should hang on to his rope here (also), so that he may have the benefit of his light and may follow him in the rising ranks of Paradise."
He said: A group of people will rise who had adhered to his rope in their life on earth, and will follow him into Paradise.
Then there will be announcement from Allah, Most High: "those who followed a leader (Imam) while living on earth, follow him as he goes, and they will go with him." That will be the time when "those who led will dissociate themselves from those who followed them, and they will see the chastisement, and all relations between them will be severed. And those who followed will say: if only we had one more chance, we would dissociate ourselves from them, as they have disowned themselves from us. Thus will Allah show them their deeds as anguish for them and never will they come out of the hellfire." [2:166,167].'

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh Al-Saffaar:

Narrated to us Al-Abbas Ibn Ma’ruf from Hammaad Ibn Isa from Hariz from Abi Hamza Ath-Thumali from Abu Ja’far(عليه السلام) saying: ‘The Messenger of Allah(صلی الله و عليه وآله) said: ‘If someone wants to live my life and die my death and enter the Paradise which my Lord has Promised to me, the Garden of Eden, a branch of which has been implanted by my Lord. He should take Ali and the Imams after him as his Guardians, for they are the Imams of Guidance, Allah has Given them understanding and knowledge, for they are my Progeny from my flesh and my blood. Some Merits of Visiting the Grave of Imam Husain(عليه السلام)

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh As-Saduq:

Narrated my father, may Allah have mercy on his soul, from Sa'd Ibn Abdullah from Ya'qub Ibn Yazid from Mohammad Ibn Abi Umayr from Muawiyah Ibn Wahab, who said: once I entered upon Abi Abdullah (عليه السلام) and saw him busy in worship on the prayer-mat. I waited till the Imam (عليه السلام) concluded his prayers. Then he started supplicating to Lord, “O Lord! You have granted us special ranks and gave us permission to intercede. You gave us the knowledge of prophets and made their inheritors. You ended the time of past communities when we arrived. You made us successors of the Holy Prophet (صلی الله وعليه وآله) and gave us the knowledge of past and future and directed the hearts of people towards us.
Forgive my brothers and the visitors of Imam Husain (عليه السلام) and forgive those who spend their wealth and leave their homeland and come for the Ziyarat of Imam Husain (عليه السلام). They have come to seek goodness from us, reward from You, to meet us, to make Your Messenger (صلی الله وعليه وآله) glad. They have come to obey our orders while they wanted to make Your Messenger (صلی الله وعليه وآله) happy by doing this.
O Allah! Grant them our pleasure for this deed. Protect them day and night; safeguard their family and children whom they have left behind in their homeland. Keep them safe of every oppressor, enemy – weak or strong, mischief of Jinn or men. Grant them much more than they expect from You. When they were coming towards us leaving their homeland, family and children behind, our enemies were teasing them.
O Allah! Shower Your mercy on those faces whose color changed during the journey due to the hot sun. Shower mercy on those cheeks, which rubbed against the grave of Imam Husain (عليه السلام). Shower mercy on those eyes, which are crying on us. Shower mercy on those hearts, which are sad due to our calamities. Shower mercy on those loud wails, which came out upon hearing our troubles.
O Allah! I hand over their bodies and souls to You so that You satisfy them at the cistern of Kauthar when people would be thirsty.” Imam (عليه السلام) prayed this again and again while prostrating.
When he concluded his supplications and stood up from the prayer-mat, the narrator said, “If the supplication, which you were saying now is said for a person who does not even recognize Allah then too I doubt if the fire of Hell would touch him. By Allah I wished that I had visited his grave and had not visited Hajj.”
Imam (عليه السلام) said, “You stay near the pure grave of Imam (عليه السلام). What stops you from doing his Ziyarat? O Muawiyah Ibne Wahab! Do not miss the Ziyarat of Imam (عليه السلام).”
Muawiyah said, “May I be sacrificed on you, I never knew the excellence of the Ziyarat of Imam (عليه السلام) was such.”
Imam said, “O Muawiyah! The number of creatures in the heaven praying for the visitors of Imam Husain (عليه السلام) is much more than that of those praying on this earth.
O Muawiyah! Do not miss the Ziyarat of Imam Husain (عليه السلام) out of any fear for one who leaves Ziyarat out of any fear would face such a surprise and shame that he would wish that he should have performed Ziyarat all the time and would wish to have been buried over there.
Don’t you like that the Almighty Allah includes you among those for whom the Holy Prophet (صلی الله وعليه وآله) prays?
Don’t you like to be among those with whom angels will shake hands on the Day of Judgment?
Don’t you like to be among those who come on the Day of Judgment with no sins to their names?
Don’t you like to be among those with whom the Holy Prophet (صلی الله وعليه وآله) will shake hands on the Day of Judgment?

The Pledge of Al-Ghadir, No One Violated it Except A Disbeliever

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Allamah Al-Majlisi:

[Qurb Al-Isnaad] As-Sindi Ibn Mohammad from Safwan Al-Jamal who said: ‘Abu Abdullah(عليه السلام), he said: I heard him saying: "When the matter of Wilayah was revealed about Ali, a man stood up from among the people, saying: 'Verily, this Messenger just tied a tie for this man(i.e. for Amirul-Muminin(عليه السلام)) that no one shall untie it except for a disbeliever.' So the second (i.e. the second usurper, Umar) came to him and said: 'O servant of Allah, who are you?' the man remained silent, so the second(i.e. Umar) went to the Messenger of Allah(صلى الله عليه وآله) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I saw a man among people saying: 'Verily, this Messenger just tied a tie for this man that no one shall untie it except for a disbeliever.', So he said: 'O so and so, that was Jibra'il, so be careful to not be the person who unties this tie and apostates.''"

Eid of Al-Ghadir and Fasting in it

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh As-Saduq:

Reward of fasting in the day of Ghadir Khum

Narrated my father, may Allah bless him, saying: narrated to us Sa'd Ibn Abdullah from Ibrahim Ibn Hashim from Al-Qasim Ibn Yahya from his grandfather Al-Hasan Ibn Rashed from Abi Abdullah(عليه السلام), saying: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah(عليه السلام), saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, is there any other Eid for the Muslims besides the two Eids?’
The Imam replied, ‘Yes, O Hassan, there is a greater and more important Eid than these two.’
I then asked, ‘When is such Eid?’
He replied, ‘It is the day when ’Amirul Muminin(عليه السلام) was appointed as the banner and lighthouse for people.’
I then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, ‘When is this Eid?’
He replied: ‘Days repeat themselves and that is the 18th of Dhil Hijjah.’
I then said, ‘what then we should do on this day?’
He replied, ‘Fast, O Hassan, increase your appeal before Allah saying, “Grant salawat (favors and compensation to Mohammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause).” Denounce before Allah those who oppressed them and usurped their right, because the prophets, may Allah grant them favors, would command the trustees to celebrate the day when they were appointed as executors of the will, as Eid.’
I then asked, ‘What happens if one fasts on such day?’
He replied, ‘Fasting on this day is equal to fasting for sixty months. And do not ignore fasting on the twenty-seventh of the month of Rajab. It is the day when prophet-hood came down up on Mohammad(صلي الله وعليه وآله). Fasting on this day is equal to sixty months of yours.’”

The Day of Al-Ghadir The Noblest of The Eids

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh Hadi An-Najafi:

As-Saduq: from his father from that Sa'd Ibn Abdullah from Yaqub Ibn Yazid from Mohammad Ibn Ibn Abi Umayr from more than one narrator that Aba Abdullah As-Sadiq (عليه السلام) said, “Saturdays are for us. Sundays are for our followers. Mondays are for our enemies. Tuesdays are for the Umayyads. Wednesdays are the days for taking medicine. Thursdays are for taking care of your needs. Fridays are for cleaning up and putting on perfume. Fridays are Eid for the Muslims. They are even better than Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adh'ha. The Day of Al-Ghadir is the noblest of the Eids. It is on the eighteenth day of the month of Dhul-Hijja. The Riser (عليه السلام) of us, the Ahlulbayt, will rise on a Friday. The Resurrection Day will be on a Friday. No deeds are better on Fridays than sending God's Blessings upon Mohammad (صلي الله وعليه وآله) and his Family(عليهم السلام).”

Grading: The chain of narration is Sahih(Authentic).

The Day The Religion Was Perfected

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh Hadi An-Najafi:

Al-Kulayni has narrated from Ali ibn Ibrahim from his father from Ibn Abu 'Umayr from 'Umar ibn Uzaina from Zurara and Fudhayl ibn Yasaar and Bukayr ibn A'yan and Mohammad ibn Muslim and Burayd ibn Mu‘awiya and abu a1-Jarud, all have said that abu Ja'far (عليه السلام) said the following:
Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Gracious, commanded His Messenger to declare the Leadership with Divine Authority of Ali(عليه السلام) and sent down to him this: ‘Only Allah, His Messenger, and (also) the true believers who are steadfast in prayer and pay alms, while they kneel during prayer (in Ruku’), are your guardians (with Divine Authority).’ [5:55], He made obedience to those in authority obligatory. The people did not know who they were. Allah commanded Mohammad(صلي الله وعليه وآله) to interpret (and explain) the ‘Authority’ for them as he had interpreted (and explained) Prayer, Zakat , Fasting and Hajj.
When this command (to obey those who possess Divine Authority) came to him from Allah, the Messenger of Allah(صلي الله وعليه وآله) felt pressured (and afraid of people’s abandoning their religion). He prayed to Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Gracious, about it and Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Gracious, revealed to him this: ‘O Messenger, preach what is revealed to you from your Lord. If you do not preach, it will be as though you have not conveyed My message. Allah protects you from men. He does not guide the unbelieving people.’ [5:67], He executed the command of Allah, Most Exalted is Whose mention, and declared that Ali(عليه السلام) had received Divine Authority for leadership over His creatures. He made this declaration on the day of Ghadir Khum (18th of Dhu al-Hajja). After the prayer in congregation he convened the command and asked people present to bear testimony and inform those who were absent.
“‘Umar ibn ’Uzaina said, ‘All, except abu al-Jarud, have added: “Abu Ja‘far(عليه السلام) also said: ‘One commandment would come after the other and the commandment about Leadership and Guardianship with Divine Authority was the last of such commandments. Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Gracious, then sent down this: ‘On this day I have perfected your religion, completed My favors to you, and chosen Islam as your religion. . . .’ [5:3] Abu Ja‘far(عليه السلام) said, ‘Allah, the Most Majestic, the Most Gracious, said, ‘I will not send down any other commandments thereafter. I have completed for you the commandments.’”
