Our Duty During Ghaybah

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh As-Saduq:

8 - Narrated to us Mohammad Ibn Al-Hasan Ibn Ahmad Ibn Al-Walid (رضي الله عنه): Narrated to us Mohammad Ibn Al-Hasan As-Saffaar: Narrated to us Ahmad Ibn Mohammad Ibn Isa and Mohammad Ibn Al-Husain Ibn Abil Khattab and Haitham Ibn Abi Masruq Al-Nahadi from Al-Hasan Ibn Mahboub As-Sarraad from Ali Ibn Rihaab from Abi Hamza Ath-Thumali from Abi Ja’far (عليه السلام) that he heard him say:
“The most proximate to Allah, the Mighty and Sublime and the most knowledgeable about Him and the most kind to the people are Mohammad (صلي الله و عليه وآله) and the Imams (عليهم السلام). So you enter where they enter and leave off whatever they leave. It denotes Al-Husain and his descendants as the truth is with them and they are the successors and the Imams are among them. So wherever you see them, follow them and if you did not see anyone of them one day, beseech the Almighty Allah and look into the Sunnah that you got and follow it. Love those whom you used to love(i.e. the Ahlulbayt عليهم السلام) and hate those whom you used to hate(i.e. their enemies), then very soon you will get deliverance(i.e. the reappearnace of the Imam عجل الله فرجه).”

who are the Shia?

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh As-Saduq:

The Shia were created from the same clay of the Imams:

My father, Allah may have mercy upon him, narrated to us from Abdullah Ibn Ja’far from Ahmad Ibn Mohammad from Ibn Abi Najran that he heard Abu al-Hasan (Imam ar-Ridha) saying:
He who antagonizes our Shia is antagonizing us and whoever follows them is following us, because they are part of us. They were created from the same clay from which we were created. He who loves them is one of us, and whoever hates them is not with us. Our Shia see through the light of Allah, move about in the mercy of Allah, and will win the dignity of Allah. We feel the same pains that any of our Shia feels during ailment, we become grieved whenever any of our Shia becomes grieved, and we feel happy whenever any of our Shia feels happy. No one of our Shia can be out of our auspices, whether he was in the east or the west of the earth. The debt that is left by any of our Shia is in our responsibility while the estate is his heirs’. Our Shia are those who offer the prayers, defray the zakat, perform the hajj to the Holy House of Allah, fast during the month of Ramadan, declare their loyalty to the Prophet’s household, and declare their disavowal of the enemies of the Prophet’s household.
Those are the people of faith, God-fearing, piety, and devoutness. He whoever rejects them is rejecting Allah, because they are the true servants and the genuine disciples of Allah. By Allah I swear, each individual of them will be granted (on the Day of Resurrection) the right to intercede for people as many as the individuals of the tribes of Rabeea and Madhar, out of Allah’s honor to them.

prayers behind he who does not practice Tabarri

بسم الله الواحد القهار

No doubt Tawalli which is friendship and submission to the guardianship of the Ahlulbayt(عليهم السلام) and Tabarri, which is enmity towards their enemies, are of the most important concepts in the school of Ahlulbayt(عليهم السلام). These two concepts need always to be practiced hand in hand and parallel, accepting just one of them and refraining from the other is not acceptable.
Of the jurisprudential verdicts which makes this clear is the impermissibly of performing prayers behind someone who manifests Tawalli, but refrains from doing Tabarri. In other words such a person lacks the Adaala, which is of the primary conditions for someone who leads the prayers in the School of Ahlulbayt(عليهم السلام).
The importance of this verdict shows itself when we look at the definition of Adaala, which is the state of someone who performs the obligatory acts and refrains from what has been prohibited, which means that Tawalli and Tabarri are of the primary obligatory acts for every Shia Muslim and he who refrains from practicing one of them is not considered an Aadil(i.e. upright) person.

Sheikh At-Tusi:

Sahih(authetnic): and also it has been narrated from him(i.e. Al-Husain Ibn Sa’eed) from Al-Nadhr from Yahya Al-Halabi from Ibn Muskan from Isma’eel Al-Ju’fi who said: I said to Abi Ja’far(عليه السلام): someone who loves Amiral-Muminin(عليه السلام)but does not disassociate  himself (i.e. do bara'a) from his enemies, and he says: He (i.e. Imam Ali (عليه السلام)) is more beloved to me than those who opposed him. Imam (عليه السلام) said: such a person is confused(i.e. has mixed his religion) and he is an enemy, so do not pray behind him and he should not be respected, unless you do Taqiyya from him.

Source: Tahdheeb Al-Ahkaam, Vol. 3 Pg. 32, H-No. 97-9
Sheikh Al-Khwajawi:

And it is also clear that whoever who does not disassociate himself from the enemies of the Ahlulbayt(عليه السلام), he is their enemy himself. As it is obvious in the Sahih(authentic) narration of Isma’eel Al-Ju’fi who said: I said to Abi Ja’far(عليه السلام): someone who loves Amiral-Muminin(عليه السلام)but does not disassociate  himself (i.e. do bara'a) from his enemies, and he says: He (i.e. Imam Ali (عليه السلام)) is more beloved to me than those who opposed him. Imam (عليه السلام) said: such a person is confused(i.e. has mixed his religion) and he is an enemy, so do not pray behind him and he should not be respected, unless you do Taqiyya from him.

So he (عليه السلام) has declared the enmity towards those who do not disassociate themselves from their (عليهم السلام) enemies, even if Amiral-Muminin(عليه السلام) is more beloved to that person than those who opposed him and we do not define such people as Nasibi, except for those who antagonize the Ahlulbayt(عليه السلام) secretly or openly, we rather say: whoever antagonizes their friends, then he is a Nasibi.

Source: Ar-Rasahil Al-Fiq’hiyya, Vol. 2 Pg. 99
Sheikh Al-Khwajawi:

If someone declares the Wilaya but refrains from Bara’a, so he is confused and an enemy, as it is obvious in the Sahih(authentic) narration of Al-Ju’fi that was mentioned before, where he says:
I said to Abi Ja’far(عليه السلام): someone who loves Amiral-Muminin(عليه السلام)but does not disassociate  himself (i.e. do bara'a) from his enemies, and he says: He (i.e. Imam Ali (عليه السلام)) is more beloved to me than those who opposed him. Imam (عليه السلام) said: such a person is confused(i.e. has mixed his religion) and he is an enemy.

And it is obvious in some narrations that such a person is whoever who opposes the truth, even if he does not antagonize the people of the truth from among the Shia, and the Nasibi who antagonizes them, even if they do not manifest the enmity towards Ahlulbayt(عليه السلام).

Source: Ar-Rasahil Al-Fiq’hiyya, Vol. 2 Pg. 102
Sheikh Al-Bahrani Al-Qatifi:

Prohibition of performing prayers behind someone who does Tawalli, but refrains from Tabarri:

Evidenced through what has been mentioned previously and what Sheikh(i.e. Sheikh Al-Tusi) has narrated through a Sahih(authentic) chain from Isma’eel Al-Ju’fi who said: I said to Abi Ja’far(عليه السلام): someone who loves Amiral-Muminin(عليه السلام)but does not disassociate (i.e. do bara'a) from his enemies, and he says: He (i.e. Imam Ali (عليه السلام)) is more beloved to me than those who opposed him. Imam (عليه السلام) said: such a person is confused(i.e. has mixed his religion) and he is an enemy, so do not pray behind him and he should not be respected, unless you do Taqiyya from him.

Apparently this narration refers to the Batriyya and they are the followers of Kathir An-Nawa and Al-Hasan Ibn Saleh Ibn Hai and Salim Ibn Abi Hafsa and Al-Hakam Ibn Utayba and Salama Ibn Kuhail and Thabit Al-Haddad and they are a group who invite to the Wilayat of Ali(عليه السلام) and then mix it with the Wilayat of Abi Bakr and Umar and accept them as Imams and leaders, but they show enmity towards Uthman, Talha, Al-Zubayr and Aisha, and they believe in revolting with the children of Ali(عليه السلام) and they believe that whoever from among them who rises and revolts is an Imam.

Ali's enemy is the enemy of Allah

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh Al-Mufid:

He said: Abu Ja'far Mohammad Ibn Ali Ibn al-Husain reported to me from his father, who reported from Mohammad Ibn Yahya Al-Attaar, who reported from Ahmad Ibn Mohammad Ibn Isa, from Ali Ibn Al-Hakam, from Hisham Ibn Salim, from Sulayman Ibn Khalid, from Abu Abdillah Ja'far Ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq(عليه السلام), from his forefathers(عليهم السلام), who said:
The Prophet(صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), told Ali(عليه السلام):
"O Ali, you are from me and I from you. Your friend is my friend and my friend is Allah's friend.
And your enemy is my enemy and my enemy is the enemy of Allah.
O Ali, I am at war with the one who fights you and at peace with one who is at peace with you.
O Ali, you have a treasure in the Heaven and you are the master of its both sides.
O Ali, you are the divider of heaven and hell.
None shall enter the heaven unless he has recognized you, and you have recognized him!
And none shall enter hell unless he has rejected you and you have rejected him.
O Ali, you and your descendants shall be on the heights (al-A'araaf) on the Day of Judgment, recognizing the sinners by their marks, and the believers by their signs.
O Ali, the believers would not have been distinguished, after I have departed, if you were not there."

All guidance belongs to Ahlulbayt(عليهم السلام)

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh Al-Mufid:

Abul Qasim Ja'far Ibn Mohammad reported to me from his father, from Sa'd Ibn Abdullah, from Ahmad Ibn Mohammad Ibn Isa, from al-Hasan Ibn Mahboub, from Abu Ayyoub al-Khazzaz, from Muhammad Ibn Muslim, who reported that:
Abu Ja'far Mohammad Ibn Ali(عليه السلام) said: "People (who have discarded us) have no truth, nor any propriety, except that which they have learnt from us Ahlulbayt. None from them can judge truly or with justice, unless he has taken its guidance from Amirul Mu'minin Ali Ibn Abi Talib(عليه السلام), the key, the gate, the path blazer, the way. And when they are confused in any matter, the fault is theirs if they commit an error; and if they decide rightly, the credit goes to Ali Ibn Abi Talib (عليه السلام)."

Allah to Isa(a.s): My Messenger(saw) will pass away a Martyr

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh Al-Kulayni:

Hadith of Isa Ibn Maryam(عليهما السلام):

Narrated Ali Ibn Ibraheem from his father from Ali Ibn Isbaat from them(عليهم السلام): Among what Allah Almighty advised Isa Ibn Maryam(عليه السلام) was: ....

Then I advise you, O son of Maryam, the chaste virgin, of the Chief of the Rasools, and My Beloved, so he is Ahmad, the owner of the red camel, with a face illuminated with the light as bright as the full moon, and the one pure of the heart, and intensely valiant, the prestigious, for he is the Mercy to the Worlds, and the Chief of the children of Adam on the Day that he will meet Me. The most honourable of the former ones to Me, and the nearest one to Me from the Rasools, the Arab, the trustworthy, the embodiment of My Religion, the patient one in struggling against the Polytheists by his own self and hands for the sake of My Religion. And inform the Children of Israel about him, and command them that they should ratify him, and believe in him, and follow him, and help him”.
Isa(عليه السلام) asked: My God! Who is he that if I were to please him it would please You?’ He Said: “He is Muhammad, the Rasool Allah(صلی الله و عليه وآله) to all of the people. He is the closest to Me in status, and the presenter for the intercession.
Good tidings for him from the Prophets and good tidings for his community who will meet Me whilst being upon his way. The inhabitants of the earth praise him, and the inhabitants of the sky seek Forgiveness through him.
The trustworthy, the Entrusted one, the good, the blessed, the best of the remaining ones in My Presence who will be in the end of times. When he comes out, the sky will loosen its rainfall and the earth will bring out its blossoms until they will see the Blessings, and I will Bless for him whatever that he places his hand upon, one with many wives and few children. He will live at Bekka (Makkah), the place of foundation of Ibrahim.
O Isa! his Religion is the upright one (Al-Haneefa), and his direction(Qiblah) is the Right one, and he is from My Party, and I am with him.
So good tidings for him. Then again good tidings for him, for him is Al-Kawsar(the Lake), and the great status in Gardens of Eden, living honourably, the ones that live in it, and he will pass away as a martyr.
For him is the Fountain greater than Bakka (Makkah) up to the rising of the sun. In this are springs of a sealed drink (Al-Raheeq Al-Makhtoum) similar (in number) to the stars in the sky, and cups similar (in number) to the grains of the sands of the earth, sweetened in it from every drink and food of every fruit in the Paradise. The one, who drinks from it a drink, will never be thirsty ever again, and that is what I have Apportioned for him, and as a merit for him over the period in between you and him.
His secret would be in accordance with his publicising, and his words would be his deeds. He will not command the people except by himself doing it first.
His Religion is the Holy War in hardship as well as in ease. The cities would surrender to him and the ruler of Rome would yield to him. He would be upon the Religion of Ibrahim. He will mention My name during partaking of the food, and would express the greetings, and he will Pray whilst the people are sleeping. Every day he would Pray five Prayers calling out in sequence to the Prayer like the calling of the army by the slogan. And he would open by the exclamation of the Takbeer, and he would end by the greetings. He would keep his feet in a row during the Prayer just as the Angels keep their feet in a row. And he would humble his heart before Me, as well as his head.
The ( the Divine Light) would be in his chest, and the truth would be upon his tongue, and he would be on the truth wherever he may be.
His origin would be as an orphan wandering for a whole during his time for that which is required from him. His eyes would sleep but his heart would never sleep. For him is the intercession, and upon his community the Hour would be Established (Day of Judgement be made easy). And My Hand is Above their hands, so the one who breaks (the Covenant) so he would have broken it against himself. And the one who is loyal to what has been Covenanted with him, I would be Loyal to him with the Paradise. So command the unjust ones of the Children of Israel to study his Books and not to alter his Sunnah, and that they should send the greetings upon him for he is upon the status more glorious than the glorious.
O Isa! All that which brings you closer to Me, I have Evidenced it for you and everything which distances you from Me, so I have Prohibited you from it, so refer to it for yourself.

Hadith No. 103: Hadith of Isa Ibn Maryam is Hasan(Good) or Muwath'thaq(Reliable), except that there is apparently Irsaal(disconnection) in its chain.
However As-Saduq has narrated it in his Amali from Mohammad Ibn Musa Ibn Al-Mutawakkil from Abdulla Ibn Ja'far Al-Himyari from Mohammad Ibn Al-Husain Ibn Abil Khattab from Ali Ibn Isbaat from Ali Ibn Abi Hamzah from Abi Basir from Abi Abdullah(عليه السلام), so the narration is Muwath'thaq(Reliable) according to the famous opinion and this(i.e. chain of As-Saduq) reveals the disconnection of the chain here(i.e. in the chain of Al-Kulayni).

There is none of us, except that he will be killed and martyred

بسم الله الواحد القهار

Sheikh As-Saduq:

Mohammad Ibn Musa Ibn Al-Mutawakkil - may God be pleased with him - narrated that Ali Ibn Ibraheem Ibn Hashim quoted on the authority of his father, on the authority of Abi Salt Al-Hirawi who said: I heard Al-Ridha(عليه السلام) saying, “By Allah! there is none of us, except that he will be killed and martyred.
He was asked, “O son of the Prophet of God! Who will murder you?” He replied, “The most wicked creature of God in my time (Al-Ma’mun) will kill me using poison. Then he will bury me in a very tight house in a strange town. Know that whoever visits me in my loneliness, God the Highest will record for him the reward of one-hundred thousand martyrs, one-hundred thousand honest ones, one-hundred thousand obligatory and ‘Umra (supererogatory) pilgrimages, and one-hundred thousands fighters in the way of God. He will also be resurrected among us. He will be established in high ranks in Heaven as our friend.”
