بسم الله الواحد القهار
No doubt
Tawalli which is friendship and submission to the guardianship of the Ahlulbayt(عليهم السلام) and Tabarri, which is enmity towards
their enemies, are of the most important concepts in the school of Ahlulbayt(عليهم السلام). These two concepts need always
to be practiced hand in hand and parallel, accepting just one of them and
refraining from the other is not acceptable.
Of the
jurisprudential verdicts which makes this clear is the impermissibly of performing
prayers behind someone who manifests Tawalli, but refrains from doing Tabarri. In
other words such a person lacks the Adaala, which is of the primary conditions for someone
who leads the prayers in the School of Ahlulbayt(عليهم السلام).
The
importance of this verdict shows itself when we look at the definition of Adaala,
which is the state of someone who performs the obligatory acts and refrains
from what has been prohibited, which means that Tawalli and Tabarri are of the primary obligatory acts for every Shia Muslim and he who refrains from practicing one of them is not considered an Aadil(i.e. upright) person.
Sheikh
At-Tusi:
Sahih(authetnic):
and also it has been narrated from him(i.e. Al-Husain Ibn Sa’eed) from Al-Nadhr
from Yahya Al-Halabi from Ibn Muskan from Isma’eel Al-Ju’fi who said: I said to
Abi Ja’far(عليه السلام): someone who loves
Amiral-Muminin(عليه السلام)but
does not disassociate himself (i.e. do bara'a) from his enemies, and he says: He (i.e. Imam
Ali (عليه السلام)) is
more beloved to me than those who opposed him. Imam (عليه السلام) said: such a person is confused(i.e. has mixed his religion) and he is an enemy, so do not pray behind him and he should not be respected,
unless you do Taqiyya from him.
Sheikh Al-Khwajawi:
And it is also clear that whoever who does not disassociate himself from the
enemies of the Ahlulbayt(عليه السلام), he is
their enemy himself. As it is obvious in the Sahih(authentic) narration of Isma’eel
Al-Ju’fi who said: I
said to Abi Ja’far(عليه السلام): someone who loves
Amiral-Muminin(عليه السلام)but
does not disassociate himself (i.e. do bara'a) from his enemies, and he says: He (i.e. Imam
Ali (عليه السلام)) is
more beloved to me than those who opposed him. Imam (عليه السلام) said: such a person is confused(i.e. has mixed his religion) and he is an enemy, so do not pray behind him and he should not be respected,
unless you do Taqiyya from him.
So he (عليه السلام) has declared the enmity towards those who do not
disassociate themselves from their
(عليهم السلام) enemies, even if Amiral-Muminin(عليه السلام) is
more beloved to that person than those who opposed him and we do not define such people as
Nasibi, except for those who antagonize the Ahlulbayt(عليه السلام) secretly or openly, we rather say:
whoever antagonizes their friends, then he is a Nasibi.

Sheikh Al-Khwajawi:
If someone declares the
Wilaya but refrains from Bara’a, so he is confused and an enemy, as it is
obvious in the Sahih(authentic) narration of Al-Ju’fi that was mentioned
before, where he says:
I said to Abi Ja’far(عليه السلام): someone who loves Amiral-Muminin(عليه السلام)but
does not disassociate himself (i.e. do bara'a) from his enemies, and he says: He (i.e. Imam
Ali (عليه السلام)) is
more beloved to me than those who opposed him. Imam (عليه السلام) said: such a person is confused(i.e. has mixed his religion) and he is an enemy.
And it is obvious in
some narrations that such a person is whoever who opposes the truth, even if he does
not antagonize the people of the truth from among the Shia, and the Nasibi who
antagonizes them, even if they do not manifest the enmity towards Ahlulbayt(عليه السلام).
Sheikh Al-Bahrani
Al-Qatifi:
Prohibition of
performing prayers behind someone who does Tawalli, but refrains from Tabarri:
Evidenced through what
has been mentioned previously and what Sheikh(i.e. Sheikh Al-Tusi) has narrated through a
Sahih(authentic) chain from Isma’eel Al-Ju’fi who said: I said to Abi Ja’far(عليه السلام): someone who loves
Amiral-Muminin(عليه السلام)but
does not disassociate (i.e. do bara'a) from his enemies, and he says: He (i.e. Imam
Ali (عليه السلام)) is
more beloved to me than those who opposed him. Imam (عليه السلام) said: such a person is confused(i.e. has mixed his religion) and he is an enemy, so do not pray behind him and he should not be respected, unless
you do Taqiyya from him.
Apparently this
narration refers to the Batriyya and they are the followers of Kathir An-Nawa
and Al-Hasan Ibn Saleh Ibn Hai and Salim Ibn Abi Hafsa and Al-Hakam Ibn Utayba
and Salama Ibn Kuhail and Thabit Al-Haddad and they are a group who invite to
the Wilayat of Ali(عليه السلام) and
then mix it with the Wilayat of Abi Bakr and Umar and accept them as Imams and
leaders, but they show enmity towards Uthman, Talha, Al-Zubayr and Aisha, and
they believe in revolting with the children of Ali(عليه السلام) and they believe that
whoever from among them who rises and revolts is an Imam.
